The management team of the Master’s Program in Biology at the Faculty of Science and Mathematics (FSM), Universitas Diponegoro (Undip), conducted a benchmarking activity at the Faculty of Biology, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) in Yogyakarta. The initiative was led by Prof. Dr. Erma Prihastanti, M.Si, the Head of the Master’s Program in Biology, and included prominent figures such as Prof. Sapto Purnomo Putro, M.Si, Ph.D, the Head of the Department of Biology, along with the curriculum team comprising Prof. Dr. Endah Dwi Hastuti, M.Si, Dr. Nintya Setiari, M.Si, and Dr. Yulita Nurchayati, M.Si.

The objective of the benchmarking activity was to gather information about the implementation of curriculum and the tri dharma activities at the Faculty of Biology, UGM, specifically focusing on the Master’s Program in Biology. Prof. Erma Prihastanti emphasized that this initiative is part of a tangible effort to enhance academic services at the Master’s Program in Biology, FSM Undip. “We aim to gain a comprehensive understanding of best practices at the Faculty of Biology, UGM, to improve specific aspects within our program,” she stated.

During the visit, the team from the Master’s Program in Biology, Undip, was warmly received at the Faculty of Biology, UGM. Joint discussions with the leadership of the Faculty of Biology, including Dr. Bambang Retnoaji, S.Si, M.Sc, the Vice Dean for Academic and Student Affairs, provided an in-depth insight into education management at the faculty level. The discussion then continued with Dr.rer.nat Andhika Puspito Nugroho, S.SI, M.Si, the Head of the Master’s Program in Biology at UGM, addressing education management at the program level.

The final session included an engaging discussion on Quality Assurance System presented by Zuliyati Rohmah, S.Si, M.Si, Ph.D, the Coordinator of the Quality Assurance Unit at the Faculty of Biology, UGM. These discussions covered critical aspects related to education quality and assurance at the program level.

Prof. Erma Prihastanti conveyed that the results of this benchmarking activity would serve as a crucial foundation for improving the management of the Master’s Program in Biology at FSM Undip. “We hope to implement the best practices discovered at the Faculty of Biology, UGM, to enhance the quality of education at the master’s level,” she expressed.

This benchmarking activity also reflects a close collaboration between programs within the same scientific discipline. It is a concrete step towards providing the best educational services for the community and elevating the existence of the program at the national level.
